Active Surfaces develops lightweight, flexible, high-efficiency solar technology intended for integration into a wide range of surfaces and materials. The company was spun out from MIT and is based in Woburn, MA. Founded by Shiv Bhakta and Richard Swartwout, Active Surfaces aims to make solar power ubiquitous by embedding photovoltaics into everyday materials and surfaces of any size. The company intends to use its recent funding to expand R&D efforts, scale up production, and bring its solar solutions to market. Active Surfaces secured a $5.6M pre-seed funding round to advance those plans.
