AdAsia is a Singapore-based ad-tech company that develops an AI engine to match advertisers with publishers and brands. The startup plans to use the new capital to accelerate development of that AI matching engine. Gunosy, a listed Japanese newsreader firm, will also provide some ad units on its mobile apps exclusively to boost AdAsia’s business. The company was founded in April 2016 by Kosuke Sogo and Otohiko Kozutsumi and operates ten offices across nine Asian countries. AdAsia says work with over 300 clients generated over $12 million in revenue last year and that it reached profitability within its first year of operations. CEO Kosuke Sogo has indicated plans to take the company public in Japan potentially as soon as next year. AdAsia provides a single digital platform that integrates real-time buying, social targeting and large exchanges such as Adwords, DoubleClick and Facebook, plus video, mobile and an influencer marketing program. The company was founded in April 2016 by CEO Kosuke Sogo and COO Otohiko Kozutsumi and is headquartered in Singapore with offices across Taiwan, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand. Despite only a year of operations the firm reported profitability, grossing $12 million in sales between April and December 2016 and growing 20–30% month-over-month; it serves about 300 clients and is targeting $30 million in annual revenue. AdAsia currently employs around 80 staff and plans to expand headcount to roughly 400 before the end of next year. The Series A will fund regional expansion into China (Shanghai), Hong Kong, the Philippines, Malaysia and Japan, and establish a development center in Vietnam to build machine learning and AI capabilities. Leadership is also weighing exit options, mentioning potential IPOs in Hong Kong or Japan (or possibly the U.S.) in coming years.
