Aikido Technologies
3101 20th St, San Francisco, CA, 94110, United States
Overview
Aikido Technologies develops a platform for floating offshore wind turbines that aims to slash project costs, reduce fabrication timelines and enable serial production. The platform's key features include pin joints for serialized production of 13 major steel components, a fold-up design that occupies two-thirds less space during assembly, a fit-for-purpose reusable assembly structure for quick placement and transport, and an upending procedure that requires only water ballast. The company is building its inaugural Aikido One platform with fabrication partner Morrison Energy in Harvey, Louisiana and plans a Gulf Coast demonstration in Fall 2024. Aikido will use the oversubscribed $4 million Series Seed to advance its offshore deployment technology, build its team, and develop a commercial pipeline. The company is supported by Breakthrough Energy Fellows, which is funding the first pilot deployment. The American Bureau of Shipping granted the concept an Approval‑In‑Principle in 2022, which the article cites as an endorsement of the design.
