Overview
AIM3D, founded in 2017 as a spin-off of the University of Rostock, develops 3D multi-material printers that use standard injection-molding granules. Its systems can print products made of metals, ceramics, plastics and reinforced plastics. The company plans to use recently raised funds to expand operations and to launch series production of the ExAM 510 industrial printer. Backers in the round included The HZG Group, High‑Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) and other early-stage investors. AIM3D is based in Rostock, Germany and currently employs 17 people. The amount raised was not disclosed. AIM3D GmbH, a spin-off of the University of Rostock, builds 3D metal printers and has developed a new process for producing metal parts using 3D printing. The technology enables manufacturing of components from materials typical in automotive series production. The company is led by Managing Director Vincent Morrison. AIM3D's stated goal is the industrialization of 3D printing through use of standard injection molding granules, CNC technology and automation interfaces. The firm planned to launch its ExAM 255 machine in spring 2019. To support these efforts, AIM3D raised funding from external backers.
