Aircela

New York, New York, United States, North America

Overview

Founded in 2019, Aircela has developed a modular system that integrates direct air capture, electrolysis and hydrocarbon synthesis (Fischer–Tropsch or methanol-to-gasoline pathways) to produce liquid e-fuels compatible with conventional engines. In spring 2025 the company installed a refrigerator-sized prototype in Manhattan capable of roughly 3.8 liters per day of gasoline production while capturing about 10 kg of CO2 daily, and it maintains a waitlist for commercial units. Aircela emphasizes decentralized deployment to place production near points of consumption and reduce logistics for sectors like aviation, maritime and heavy machinery. Financially, the company has raised US$5.5 million in a Seed round with strategic backing from Maersk Growth and prominent individual investors. The startup positions its e-fuels as a complementary solution to electrification for hard-to-electrify applications and is using its recent funding to advance commercialization and scale modular unit deployments.
