airfree operates an inflight e/m-commerce platform that creates a white-label duty-free marketplace for airlines, offering a digital catalog of more than 10,000 references and a click-&-collect model. The platform downloads data before takeoff to minimize onboard connectivity needs and, in tests, used on average 50 times less satellite bandwidth than a traditional e-commerce site. airfree positions its solution to boost airport duty-free retailer sales and increase airline revenues by controlling satellite connectivity costs and improving passenger experience. The company completed a technical proof of concept in partnership with Singapore Airlines' Krislab program and conducted tests with inflight connectivity suppliers. The team was founded in 2016, has about ten people including developers, and aims for a commercial launch at the end of 2019. The fundraising announced will support a pilot in real conditions and accelerate that commercial rollout.
