Alia Therapeutics is a Trento-based spin-off focused on developing innovative treatments for rare genetic diseases using next-generation CRISPR gene-editing technologies. The company was founded in October 2018 by virologist Anna Cereseto and researchers from the University of Trento’s CIBIO department, and was accelerated at BiovelocITA. Alia aims to advance safer, more effective gene-editing strategies to treat currently incurable genetic conditions and to expand its intellectual property portfolio. The firm recently closed a new financing to consolidate its CRISPR platform and support company expansion. Its scientific work has received external recognition, with Cereseto’s research named by Nature among seven technologies to watch in 2023. The company will use the proceeds to advance its development program and strengthen its patent position.
