Alta positions itself to solidify leadership in the $125B high-growth lightweight vehicle (LWV) market, which includes mopeds, scooters, motorcycles, tuk-tuks, side-by-sides, urban autonomous vehicles and delivery drones. Founded in 2010 by Marc Fenigstein, the company aims to translate its technology across multiple vehicle segments. Alta Motors develops the all-electric Redshift, offered in two trims: the street-legal Redshift SM (starts at $15,500) and the supermoto Redshift MX (starts at $15,000). The company delivered a few units to customers last year and has now started full production. Alta filmed a timelapse of its assembly line and hosted a TechCrunch tour of its factory in Brisbane, California. The Redshift is available for reservation on Alta’s website, and the start of production should make it easier to obtain one. Financially, the startup has raised over $17 million to date, including a $4.5 million Series A nearly two years ago that named Tesla co-founders Marc Tarpenning and Martin Eberhard as backers.
