AMIMON develops WHDI wireless HDTV semiconductor chipsets used in products such as wireless HDTVs, PC-to-TV, tablet-to-TV and HD wireless bridges. The company supplies its chipsets to OEMs and consumer electronics manufacturers. It raised $15M in equity funding and intends to use the proceeds to accelerate development of its WHDI chipsets to enable further integration, reduce cost, and support growth of related products. AMIMON plans to expand WHDI into the mobile and tablet markets. Mobile devices, smartphones and tablets embedded with WHDI technology will enable users to wirelessly view device content and run interactive applications and games on TVs. The company is led by chairman and CEO Dr. Yoav Nissan-Cohen and has offices in Santa Clara, Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei and Shenzhen in addition to its Herzlia headquarters. Amimon develops chipsets for high-definition wireless video networking, focusing on WHDI-compatible technology that transfers HD video through a home. Its second-generation chipset supports full 1080p at 60 frames per second, operates in the 5-gigahertz band, transmits at 3 gigabits per second and has a range of about 100 feet, capable of piercing walls. The new chipset is WHDI-compliant and was expected to ship in customer products in 2010. Customers include Sony, Sharp, Mitsubishi, Gefen, Belkin, Stryker, IDX, Philips and Hinsense, with adoption in consumer electronics and medical imaging. The company has raised $50 million to date and closed a $10 million third round to expand production and worldwide operations. Founded in 2004 and based in Israel, Amimon faces limited competition after ultra wideband declined, though rivals such as SiBEAM and Quantenna remain.
