Aqtual

31145 San Antonio St, Hayward, CA, 94544, United States

Overview

Aqtual’s core product is a proprietary active chromatin cfDNA platform that integrates DNA, epigenetic regulation, and protein–DNA binding into a single blood-based assay to quantify tissue-specific gene regulation. The platform profiles disease biology, microenvironment, and systemic immune response from cell-free DNA fragments to enable real-time analysis of disease and treatment. Aqtual is advancing a flagship therapy-response prediction test in rheumatoid arthritis and is actively enrolling patients in the PRIMA-102 prospective observational clinical trial (more than 1,300 patients enrolled; expected completion Q4 2025). The company plans to present new data and its commercialization plans at major rheumatology and diagnostics meetings in the second half of 2025. Financially, Aqtual recently completed an oversubscribed $31 million Series B, with participation from new and previous investors and additional capital from a strategic diagnostics partner. The funding is positioned to advance the internal pipeline and support near-term commercialization efforts. Aqtual develops a proprietary cell-free DNA platform that analyzes previously unexplored circulating DNA fragments to evaluate protein regulation, epigenetics, and transcriptomics. The platform catalogs regulatory features at high resolution, including roughly 200,000 gene promoters, 400,000 enhancers, 50,000 insulators, 20,000 silencers, and 1 million transcription factor binding sites. Aqtual says this approach provides an order-of-magnitude greater detail into gene regulation than other cell-free DNA methods and can support diagnostics and drug-discovery applications. The company has initiated PRIMA-102, a prospective multi-center clinical trial (NCT05936970) in rheumatoid arthritis and has enrolled the first patient; the study plans to enroll 150 individuals to develop a classifier that predicts effective drug classes. Aqtual plans to use the assay to help physicians select the best treatments for rheumatoid arthritis patients and to expand applications across major disease areas. The company highlights potential for improved treatment decisions, faster selection of effective therapies, and new roadmaps for drug development.
