Overview
Arborea develops the Biosolar Leaf technology to cultivate microorganisms and other microscopic plants using sunlight and captured CO2 as feedstock. The system is designed to produce protein in a cost-effective, carbon-negative manner without relying on agricultural land or agriculture-derived feedstock. Arborea says the approach can reduce pressure on arable land and enable cultivation on diverse settings, including urban surfaces, while releasing oxygen during photosynthesis. The company plans to prepare its first facility for commercial-scale protein production and aims to mass-produce nutrient-rich food products with a carbon-negative footprint. Financially, Arborea secured new funding of €5M to support the build-out of that first commercial facility. Indico Capital Partners and Banco Português de Fomento are mentioned in connection with the recent investment.
