Architizer began seven years ago as a side project by founder Marc Kushner and launched as a community and portfolio site for architects. Since its launch, 40,000 architecture firms have uploaded over 120,000 projects with an average reported price tag of $33 million. The company developed Architizer Source, a marketplace and procurement tool designed to bring transparency to architects’ product purchasing. In private beta since last July with 10 architecture firms, the platform has sourced $50 million worth of deals. Vendors are charged a transaction fee when deals are struck and can use Architizer’s procurement software to respond to orders and speed billing and payments. Kushner estimates architects order $100 billion worth of products annually in North America, representing the market opportunity the company targets. The new capital will be funneled primarily into expanding the Architizer Source product and marketplace. Architizer is a New York City-based online resource for architects that hosts more than 51,000 projects submitted by over 30,000 firms. Founded in 2009 and led by CEO Marc Kushner, the site has grown a social following of over 2 million. The company's core offering is its online project repository and related resources for architecture professionals. In February 2014 Architizer raised $2 million in seed financing to support growth. The company intends to use the funds to expand its offerings to architects and building product manufacturers. Investors and strategic partners tied to the round will also provide board-level support.
