Arinna

925 Waverley St Apt 306, Palo Alto, CA, 94301, United States

Overview

Arinna is developing ultrathin photovoltaic cells specifically for spacecraft based on transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), a class of atomically thin semiconductors. The founders, CEO Koosha Nazif and CTO Alex Shearer, met while pursuing doctoral research at Stanford, where Nazif focused on the materials and Shearer on scalable production techniques. The company says its cells are extremely flexible, do not require protective coverings, can be delivered within weeks, and will last about 15 years on orbit. Arinna claims its photovoltaics are roughly 32% more efficient than incumbent solutions and are cheaper and more durable than legacy space solar panels. Near-term plans include sending qualification panels to customers for orbital testing before year-end and proving larger-scale production over the next year. Longer-term plans call for a megawatt-scale mass-production facility targeted for 2028, supported by the $4M seed financing.
