120 Causeway Street #400, Boston, MA, 02114, United States
Overview
ArtLifting operates an online marketplace where homeless, disabled and other disadvantaged people can sell their artwork, with browsing by artist, art type and city. The platform returns 55% of the profit from each sale to the artist. ArtLifting sells to everyday consumers and to corporate clients such as Staples and Microsoft. As of the article, the site features about 50 artists from eight U.S. cities; of the original 48 artists, five have received housing and 10 have been selected to exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Founding members include Powers, her brother Spencer, Kelly McKenna and Stephanie Wright; Powers started ArtLifting after nine years running art programs in women’s homeless shelters in Boston. With the new funding, ArtLifting hopes to grow its artist base and further scale as a public benefit corporation.
