Atium
Läraregatan 3, Göteborg, Västra Götaland, 412 92, Sweden
Overview
Atium builds patented, reusable electrochemical filters that selectively remove mercury from liquids, performing effectively even in acidic solutions. The technology originated from research at Chalmers University of Technology by Associate Professor Björn Wickman. Atium has completed a nine-month pilot with Swedish dental clinics and is scaling industrial pilots with partners in the mining and energy sectors. The company plans to launch its first product in 2025, targeting dental clinics where mercury emissions are high. Atium emphasizes a circular, energy-efficient approach that aims to be more cost-effective and environmentally friendly than conventional mercury-removal methods. The company is led by Co-founder and CEO Johan Björkquist and positions its solution for broad industrial application to address global heavy-metal pollution risks.
