Atlantic Healthcare develops alicaforsen enema, an antisense oligonucleotide therapy targeting ICAM-1 for inflammatory bowel diseases, currently in Phase 3 for pouchitis. The company has initiated a pivotal Phase 3 trial recruiting 138 patients across 40 trial centres in the US, Canada, Europe and Israel, with results expected in H2 2017. Alicaforsen has FDA fast-track designation and FDA and EMA orphan drug designations in pouchitis, and Atlantic holds regulatory and patent exclusivity to circa 2030. The product is also ready to commence Phase 3 for acute distal ulcerative colitis and the company is preparing regulatory filings with the U.S. FDA, EMA and Health Canada. Alicaforsen is generating early revenues in Europe through Named Patient Supply protocols and LDC commented the business is already generating revenues. Prior Phase 2 studies involving 377 patients reportedly demonstrated reductions in inflammation and mucosal healing with good tolerability.
