Overview
Avvir is a New York-based startup founded in 2017 by CEO Raffi Holzer and CTO Tira Odhner that uses laser scans and AI to catch construction mistakes and monitor progress. Its platform monitors construction progress for budget and schedule overruns by having customers send fabrication models and deploying mobile lasers that can scan up to 30 square kilometers per hour, even while construction is ongoing. Custom computer vision algorithms compare photographs and scans with building plans to identify errors and delays—Avvir says it can detect issues like unlevel floors to one-eighth inch of accuracy. The software can refresh bills of materials with site scans, automatically push updates to models, render color visualizations of percent completion, and map actual progress against schedules. Avvir has 18 full-time employees and has grown ARR from $300,000 to $1.4 million with roughly 12 customers and partners, including Boston Dynamics, and expects $4.4 million by 2022. The company plans to expand its workforce and improve its technology platform as it aims to become a construction information platform that structures field data and enables clients to act within Avvir or other tools. Avvir provides an automated construction platform that leverages computer vision to compare laser scans and photographs to building information models (BIM) and automatically update them, producing a digital twin. The digital twin is used for construction monitoring during projects and as a platform for building management after completion. The platform aims to eliminate manual data entry by syncing building plans to built reality. The company is led by CEO and co‑founder Raffi Holzer and is based in New York, NY. Avvir is piloting its system with large firms including Facebook, ExxonMobil and Goldman Sachs, as well as the NYC EDC. The company plans to expand its offerings into facility management, improve algorithm accuracy and turnaround time, and build a progress monitoring tool to automatically update construction schedules.
