Azaneo
4 Cornwallis St, Eveleigh, New South Wales, 2015, Australia
Overview
Azaneo develops rapid-pulse, low-power electrical weeding technology designed to damage weed cells using very low energy. Founder and CEO Liam Hescock, who comes from a farming background, started the company in response to herbicide-resistant weeds and concerns about spray drift and environmental impacts. The team built its first weed-zapping unit about a year ago, initially testing in greenhouses and more recently in the field where it has achieved reasonable competence against certain weed species. Azaneo positions its approach as distinct from thermal or diesel-powered electrical systems, emphasizing a low-energy solution that can scale across the agriculture value chain and integrate into different platforms. The company announced an AUD $1.4M (USD $893K) pre-seed round led by Tenacious Ventures with participation from AgFunder and IP Group to advance development. Planned next steps include building a tractor-towed, boom-style unit, demo-site testing in three to four months, and making trial units available to customers in Australia next year.
