Azelon Pharmaceuticals (formerly Zelos Therapeutics) is focused on developing novel formulations for the treatment of osteoporosis. Its lead program, ZT-034, is a nasal spray formulation of teriparatide (PTH1-34) intended as a convenient alternative to subcutaneous teriparatide (Forteo). ZT-034 showed a promising profile in initial human safety and pharmacology studies. The company is advancing ZT-034 into mid-stage clinical trials and is using the financing to support a Phase IIa pharmacodynamic study. Azelon recently restructured its management team, appointing Don Hayden as Executive Chairman and Joan Lau as president and CEO, while Brian MacDonald remains as a senior clinical advisor. The company is backed by venture investors including Prospect Venture Partners, Lighthouse Capital Partners and Covington Venture Fund.
