Overview
Base Operations operates a SaaS platform that aggregates, visualizes, and interprets the world's threat data to help companies keep people and assets safe. The platform increases organizational resilience by surfacing tailored insights and notifying security teams about changes and drivers of threats around thousands of business-relevant locations. In November the company launched an Enterprise offering that enhanced its database of global threat patterns into a tailored platform for security teams. The product helps prevent incidents such as retail and cargo theft and property damage, supports duty of care for traveling or remote employees, and aids strategic initiatives like new market entry, business continuity planning, and dynamic allocation of security resources. Financially, Base Operations recently closed a $9.1M Series A, an up round that reflects traction under difficult market conditions. The company intends to use the funding to augment forecasting capabilities, expand data strategies in emerging markets, programmatically generate detailed reports and analysis, and enhance tailored recommendations. Base Operations also plans to hire across go-to-market, product, and technology roles. Base Operations offers a SaaS threat-intelligence platform that aggregates and visualizes hundreds of millions of crowdsourced and official data points to deliver granular, street-level analysis for enterprise security operations. The product integrates with multinational companies' global security operations centers to help protect people, assets, and operations from violence, crime, and unrest. Customers include Moderna and other Fortune 500 firms across life sciences, technology, financial services, and consulting with complex global footprints. This month the company announced a partnership with ESRI to visualize Base Operations data inside ESRI's spatial intelligence GIS mapping software. The company added Dean Geribo, Head of Corporate Security at Moderna, to its advisory board. Base Operations plans to use the new funding to accelerate recruiting, enhance its product, expand globally, and advance its AI/ML capabilities. Founded in 2018 by Cory Siskind, Base Operations offers a Micro Intelligence platform that delivers street-level threat assessments to support enterprise security operations. The product aggregates government statistics, social media, local news and partnered data from NGOs and universities, using machine learning to surface actionable insights. Its current focus areas include travel security, real estate and supply chain security, helping companies keep people safe while maintaining operations. The company recently launched its street-level threat mapping platform and doubled its employee base in the past month. Base Operations positions physical security as a strategic, SaaS-optimized function distinct from cybersecurity. The startup raised a seed round to fund hiring, product extension and global expansion. Base Operations, founded by former security and risk management consultant Cory Siskind, offers a suite of hosted software services and mobile applications to provide security updates, geo-tagged alerts and check-in capabilities for corporate workforces. The platform includes a dashboard for customers to monitor employee locations and an app that delivers location-based risk alerts and nudges toward safer behavior. In a simulated test with a Fortune 500 insurance client, Base Operations identified 80% of the workforce in under two days and more than half of employees checked in within 24 hours. The company has three customers so far, including an undisclosed insurance provider, energy company Enel and another unnamed corporation. It provides services in 15 cities, including Mexico City, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Santiago, San Juan and San Jose. Base Operations graduated from the Techstars Impact Accelerator in 2018 and recently raised $1 million to expand sales and marketing and continue research and development.
