Overview
Base Pair Biotechnologies is an aptamer discovery and development company that combines a highly customized discovery approach with a patented multiplexing technology using DNA barcoding and next-generation sequencing to identify aptamers binding up to 30 different targets. Aptamers are small synthetic RNA or DNA molecules that fold into unique shapes enabling selective and tight binding to molecular, viral, or cellular targets. The company provides custom aptamer discovery and development services, offers a small catalog of aptamers, and maintains a significant and growing intellectual property portfolio. Base Pair will use the $3.2 million Series A-3 to acquire new lab instruments and technology to expand its cellular and molecular analysis capabilities and to improve methods for finding aptamers that bind targets on and in live cells. The funding will also be used to expand the team, provide additional technical capability, and enhance geographical reach; the company has opened a new 5,000 square-foot laboratory and office facility in Pearland, Texas. Base Pair was spun out of BioTex, Inc. in 2012 and serves customers across pharma and biopharma, diagnostics, environmental testing, and veterinary medicine.
