Overview
Better Medicine is a Tartu-based medical AI startup whose core product, BMVision Kidney, is an AI-powered tool that detects malignant lesions in CT scans to assist radiologists. BMVision Kidney became the first AI-based kidney cancer detection model to receive CE certification under the EU's Medical Device Regulation in early 2025. The company plans a European rollout of the CE-certified tool, preparation for FDA clearance, and FDA-aligned clinical pilots in the U.S. By automating lesion detection and measurement, Better Medicine says its software can reduce diagnostic delays, cut human error, and free radiologists to focus on complex clinical decision-making amid workforce shortages. The company highlights radiology strain — noting just 10 radiologists per 100,000 people in the UK and roughly half of open radiologist roles unfilled — and estimates 12 million hours annually are spent globally on manual lesion measurements and reporting. Financially, Better Medicine has raised more than €5 million to date (including €2.25M in private capital and €3.7M in grants, of which €2.5M was an European Innovation Council award) and has closed a €1M Pre-Seed round to fund rollout and U.S. pilots.
