Biograil

Langebjerg 1, Roskilde, DK-4000, Denmark

Overview

Biograil develops a proprietary oral capsule device (BIONDDTM) designed to deliver biologics into the gastrointestinal wall. The device is manufactured by injection molding to fit a standard-size capsule and uses a proprietary mechanism to facilitate efficient delivery of peptides and biomacromolecules that would otherwise be injected. The team combines seasoned entrepreneurs and R&D executives, including contributors to the world’s first injection-molded oral tablet approved by the FDA. In January 2022 Biograil closed a €3.2 million Seed 2 financing led by Megatrend Invest with participation from Verve Ventures, High‑Tech Gründerfonds, Sanner Ventures and new investor Evonik Venture Capital. The company will use the funds to optimize device design, advance ongoing preclinical testing, initiate preparation for development activities, and plan for substantial investment and collaboration funding in 2022 to move from research toward development. Evonik’s involvement adds expertise in biodegradable polymers to support Biograil’s aim for a fully biodegradable, environmentally friendly delivery solution. Biograil is a Danish biotechnology company developing an oral device to deliver biologics that would otherwise require injection. Its delivery device is contained in a standard-size capsule manufactured via injection molding and designed to deposit active substances into the gastrointestinal wall. The design avoids mechanical moving components and leverages the body’s own peristaltic forces to facilitate efficient delivery into the GI wall. Led by CEO Karsten Lindhardt, the company is conducting preclinical testing and refining device design. Biograil closed a €3M seed round (expandable to €5M) to fund optimization and preclinical advancement. It intends to use the funding to prepare for a substantial global Series A in Q1 2021.
