Overview
Founded in 2018, BioInnovation Institute (BII) operates as a non-profit incubator dedicated to translating cutting-edge scientific research into commercially viable companies. Backed by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, the institute offers funding, laboratory facilities and business development assistance to entrepreneurs across healthtech, agritech, climatetech and deeptech. Through programs such as Venture House, BII can provide portfolio companies with up to €1.8 million each, combining initial and follow-on tranches. In its latest allocation, BII distributed €1.3 million in follow-on capital to five startups—Synuca Therapeutics, Gefjon Pharma, MicroMiner, DARERL and Diasense—to advance product development and scaling. The organisation’s broader mandate has been strengthened by a recent commitment of up to €736 million from the Novo Nordisk Foundation, enabling expansion into new strategic areas and geographies. This substantial backing positions BII to support a larger pipeline of European life-science ventures and accelerate their path to market.
