Overview

Founded in 2009 by Dr Karl Tryggvason and Kristian Tryggvason, BioLamina produces full-length, chemically defined, animal origin-free human recombinant laminins (Biolaminin®) used to support controlled cell culture systems. Its substrates are designed to enable reliable growth and differentiation of pluripotent stem cells and other primary cells and are used in cell therapy development, including phase I–III clinical trials. The company emphasizes scalable, high-quality cell culture solutions to improve consistency for cell therapies and drug testing. BioLamina recently secured a €20 million venture debt loan from the European Investment Bank to expand manufacturing capacity, optimise processes, broaden its product portfolio and strengthen its technological base. The financing is intended to extend the company’s funding runway while minimising immediate equity dilution.
