Biopta develops human tissue testing techniques to conduct non-clinical trials on new drugs using donated, residual human tissue collected from surgery. The company was spun out from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2002 and is based in Glasgow, UK. It will use the new funds to expand research and development of its human tissue testing methods. Biopta secured £265,000 in a second round of funding from existing and institutional backers. Investors in this round include Braveheart Investment Group, TRI Cap, the Scottish Co-Investment Fund and the company’s board of directors. The company had previously raised £900,000 in December 2008 from the same group of investors.
