Biosency

Overview

Founded in July 2017 and based in Rennes, BIOSENCY develops connected medical devices and AI analytics for chronic respiratory pathologies. Its core product, Bora care®, pairs a French-made wristband with a cloud platform that captures SpO2, respiratory rate, heart rate and activity; the integrated BVS3 algorithm predicts COPD exacerbations (86% detection, ~3 days ahead, 9% false positive). The company recently launched Bora flow to monitor patients on non-invasive ventilation, and has provisional ANS certification and HAS certification; remote-monitoring reimbursement in France has been available since July 1, 2023. BIOSENCY is preparing a multicentre clinical trial (AUSTRAAL) supported by Bpifrance to demonstrate that its predictive algorithms reduce hospital time and improve care organization and quality of life. The team comprises 34 employees and a scientific council of five pulmonologists. Financially, BIOSENCY has raised €21M since inception (€14M dilutive funding and €7M in research grants) and reports international expansion and positive clinical results. BiOSENCY develops a medical telemonitoring device and an AI-driven analytics platform (BORA Analytics) aimed at predicting and preventing exacerbations in chronic respiratory failure patients, especially those with COPD. The device measures continuous cardio-respiratory parameters in real-life settings and the AI is designed to predict exacerbations 2–5 days before an acute episode. The company was created in July 2017 and, 18 months after founding, the team comprised 15 people supported by a scientific council of six COPD pulmonology experts. BiOSENCY collaborated with CEA Leti in developing its solution. Using the new funding the company plans to commercialize its telemonitoring solution, develop intelligent algorithms for reliable COPD exacerbation prevention, and run the associated clinical study. The company also benefits from non-dilutive support and recognition from Bpifrance, the Brittany region and the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (i‑Lab laureate).
