Overview

Bioworks develops PlaX™, a modified polylactic acid (PLA) bioplastic enhanced with the company's proprietary plant-derived additives to improve quality and functionality. PlaX™ aims to substitute petroleum-derived polyester and enable new applications while contributing to carbon neutrality. Key material features reported include a 41% reduction in CO2 emissions during yarn production versus polyester, biodegradability to water and CO2 via microbes, favorable compatibility with chemical recycling, and greatly reduced CO2 and no dioxin generation on incineration. The company plans to use newly raised funds to accelerate R&D, strengthen talent, expand its product portfolio, and enter new markets. Bioworks intends to scale domestic and international distribution, including expanding PlaX™ sales channels through a partnership with long-established textile trader Yagi. The company positions itself as a material-creation firm pursuing a sustainable, circular society backed by its PlaX™ technology. Financially, including the latest round, Bioworks has raised a cumulative ¥2.5 billion.
