BirchAI builds software that summarizes and analyzes phone conversations between customers and representatives to streamline customer support for healthcare companies. The product generates a summary document after listening to a call that employees can edit, reducing post-call documentation time and improving employee and patient satisfaction. The startup targets medical device, pharmaceutical and insurance companies and can analyze conversation datasets for insights such as product deficiencies. One stated aim is to move into post-market surveillance for pharmaceutical companies to monitor product effects after FDA approval. BirchAI has two Fortune 500 customers (one medical device company and one insurance company) and brought in "a couple hundred thousand dollars" in revenue last year. The company was co-founded in June 2020 by CEO Kevin Terrell, CTO Yinhan Liu and COO Sumant Kawale and operates out of the Allen Institute for AI (AI2) incubator in Seattle. The new funding will be used to expand the team, with a focus on hiring engineers in the Seattle area.
