Overview

Blue J offers a generative AI tax research platform that covers U.S. federal, state and local (SALT), Canadian, and UK tax law, built on a rigorously curated database of authoritative sources. Its conversational interface lets users ask tax questions without special syntax and returns answers in seconds with relevant source citations. The system learns from millions of user queries annually and is positioned versus legacy keyword-based research tools. More than 70% of users log in weekly and Blue J’s Net Promoter Score is consistently in the mid-70s. In the first half of 2025 the company more than doubled its revenue and customer base and now serves tens of thousands of tax professionals across thousands of organizations. Since January 2025 Blue J has grown to over 80 employees and has more than doubled its rate of new customer acquisition; the company plans to use the new capital to accelerate team expansion, product development, and market reach. Blue J offers a generative AI–powered tax research platform that integrates authoritative tax content, including Tax Notes, regulations, case law, administrative rulings, and expert commentary. Its conversational interface synthesizes complex sources into clear, actionable answers and supports drafting memos and emails to streamline research workflows. After a major platform release in August 2023, Blue J grew to more than one thousand clients, including Big 4 accounting organizations, top 100 US CPA firms, and Fortune 100 companies. By the end of November 2024 the product was answering more than 100,000 tax research questions from users in the previous 30 days. The company announced a Series C investment led by Ten Coves Capital to accelerate global expansion and enhance its AI capabilities. Ten Coves partner Dan Kittredge will join Blue J’s board as part of the investment, positioning the company to expand its footprint among legal, accounting, corporate, and government organizations worldwide. Blue J builds a flagship tax analysis platform that uses machine learning and AI to analyze the merits of tax and legal positions. The company was founded in 2015 and operates from Toronto, and its team has grown to more than 65 employees. Its core product set includes a new tax diagramming solution purpose‑built for tax practitioners to document and analyze complex entity relationships. Blue J says the diagramming tool opens new ways to leverage AI and machine‑learning in tax analysis. The company has signed more than 200 organizations as customers, including leading North American law firms, global accounting firms, and the Canadian federal government. Management recently added Joshua Tanzola as VP, Global Sales, and Peter van Hezewyk as VP, Marketing to lead sales and marketing efforts. Blue J Legal builds AI-powered platforms that scan historic judicial decisions and use machine learning to predict court outcomes, helping legal and accounting professionals research and support positions more efficiently. The company reports its technology predicts court outcomes with 90% accuracy. Its products target North American tax law and Canadian employment law. Blue J says customers leverage its data alongside relevant case law to save time and money. The $2 million growth financing announced will be used to support product diversification and geographic expansion across North America. Blue J is Toronto-based and was founded in 2015; it is currently backed by BDC Capital, LDV Partners, Mistral Venture Partners and Relay Ventures. Blue J Legal develops machine-learning and AI products that analyze case law to bring clarity to legal questions, with an initial focus on tax and employment law. Its flagship products, Tax Foresight and Employment Foresight, let users assess the strength of legal positions and search cases by facts and outcomes rather than keywords. Since founding in 2015 the team has grown to more than 30 employees, and over the past two years the company has signed more than 100 clients for those products. Market-leading law and accounting firms such as Osler, Fasken, Gowling WLG, Miller Thomson, and Collins Barrow are among its customers. The company says its technology saves users hours and provides confident answers in challenging circumstances. Blue J plans to expand its product suite and extend the technology to other areas of law while establishing a foothold in the U.S.
