Overview

Bluesight develops Medication Intelligence™ solutions that bring visibility and predictability to medication management, including KitCheck™ (RFID-enabled kit and tray management), ControlCheck™ (controlled substance diversion management) and CostCheck™ (drug purchasing optimization). Led by CEO Kevin MacDonald, the company applies AI and machine learning to surface actionable analytics that help health systems improve efficiency, reduce medication costs, and increase compliance and safety. More than 1,000 U.S. and Canadian hospitals use its solutions. Bluesight received a strategic growth investment from Thoma Bravo; the amount was not disclosed. The company intends to use the funds to further enhance drug diversion prevention through its acquisition of Medacist and to grow its inventory management and spend optimization offerings. The acquisition of Medacist will combine auditing capabilities and reporting tools to serve more than 2,000 hospitals across North America, providing unified visibility into medication usage and diversion. Kit Check offers cloud-based and Internet of Things (IoT) software to automate hospital pharmacy kit processing, medication tracking, and restocking, replacing manual processes. The company serves over 250 hospital pharmacies with 15,000 users across the United States and Canada. Led by co-founder and CEO Kevin MacDonald, Kit Check plans to use new funding to expand market share and extend its solutions. The company is based in Washington, DC. Kit Check has raised $37.4M to date, including the most recent round. The product focus is on reducing time-consuming and error-prone manual medication handling in hospitals. Kit Check is a Washington, D.C.-based provider of hospital pharmacy kit processing and medication tracking software. Its products include Kit Check for automated pharmacy kit medication restocking and Anesthesia Check for automated anesthesia medication tracking, validation and syringe-level recording. The company serves approximately 145 hospital pharmacies across the United States. Founded in 2012 by CEO Kevin MacDonald, Kit Check has raised $22.4M to date. It intends to use the new funds to further extend its product portfolio and drive customer growth. As part of the financing, Dave Schulte of Kaiser Permanente Ventures will join Kit Check’s board. Kit Check offers a cloud-based software platform paired with RFID-outfitted scanning stations to automate inventory of hospital pharmacy kits (code trays, crash carts, anesthesiology kits). The company says its scans can cut manual processing from 30+ minutes to about 3 minutes and that several customers have reduced out-of-date kit rates from roughly 20% to under 1%. Its system can be installed in less than one hour and requires no on-site installation or in-house IT support. Customers include the University of Maryland Medical Center, NYU Langone Medical Center and five other paying hospitals, with nine more hospitals expected to begin rollouts in the coming months. Kit Check graduated Rock Health’s accelerator with $100K in seed capital. The startup plans to use new funding to accelerate growth and expand its sales force and delivery staff. Kit Check positions its use of RFID, rather than barcodes, as a primary differentiator vs. competitors such as MedKeeper.
