Bownty is a Danish daily-deals aggregator that compiles offers for local experiences across Europe. It aggregates deals from roughly 100 deal sites, including Groupon, Living Social, KGB Deals and Wowcher, covering about 1,200 cities. The product includes a searchable website, personalized daily-email subscriptions to reduce deal fatigue, and iOS and Android apps. Part of its coverage growth came via the acquisition of Southern European competitor Yunait last year. The company says it will use new capital largely for marketing to bed down and grow its user base in existing markets. Bownty highlights the operational challenge of curating and ensuring quality and relevance among the large volume of sourced deals. The new investment brings total capital raised since 2011 to €4.9 million. Bownty is a Denmark-based daily-deal aggregator that curates offers from multiple deal sites. Users receive a single daily email matched to their preferences, can use iOS and Android apps, and store deals in a 'Deal Wallet' that notifies them of expiring deals. The company currently targets the UK, France, Spain, Germany and Denmark and competes with Buyometric, Deal Zippy and City Treats. Bownty has raised $1.1 million in new funding from Danish SEED Capital and Accelerace Invest to fund further expansion across Europe and raise brand awareness. Management says the company has seen significant growth and believes there is still untapped potential in curating the daily deals marketplace.
