Overview
Braintrust operates a blockchain-powered talent marketplace that lets vetted knowledge workers find gigs with enterprises while participating in ownership and governance via its native BTRST token. Its model incentivizes community contributions and claims talent keep 100% of their earnings while clients are charged a 10% fee. BTRST launched on the Ethereum mainnet in September 2021 and is tradable on Coinbase. The network reports more than 700,000 community members and says hundreds of Fortune 1000 companies, including Deloitte, NASA, Intel, Nike, IBM, Nestlé, and Under Armour, have used the platform. After emerging from stealth in June 2020, Braintrust reports gross services volume grew from $1.2M to $28.2M in the first 18 months, clients rose from 63 to 474, and Talent grew from about 2,194 to over 36,000. The company plans to deploy new resources to grow the network and fund community grant programs and development initiatives to further decentralize and scale the protocol. Braintrust is a San Francisco-based network connecting freelance technical and design talent with enterprise clients. It operates a marketplace that charges only hiring companies — freelancers join and bid without fees and Braintrust does not take a cut of project payments. The platform uses a cryptocurrency token called Btrust to reward users who grow and govern the network, giving participants a stake in its evolution. Its client roster includes Nestlé, Pacific Life, Deloitte, Porsche, Blue Cross Blue Shield and TaskRabbit. The company became profitable after a $6 million seed round, and the new funding will be used to build the core team and bring in more work. Co-founder and CEO Adam Jackson frames the product as an alternative to traditional freelance marketplaces, emphasizing ownership and fairer treatment of contractors. Braintrust is a freelance marketplace that aims to cut traditional middlemen in hiring (think ZipRecruiter, Indeed) by connecting candidates and employers directly. The platform integrates a governance token, built as an ERC‑20 fork of Compound’s governance model, to set platform rules and reward actions such as referrals. Braintrust says the token is for governance and not intended as a financial token to be monetized. The company launched out of stealth and has sourced hires for firms including Porsche, Nestle, Blue Cross Blue Shield, TaskRabbit and NASA. Adam Jackson is co‑founder and CEO; he previously co‑founded Doctor On Demand. The launch was backed by a $6 million seed round that financed the initial public reveal and product rollout.
