3592 West 5th Avenue, Eugene, OR, 97402, United States
Overview
Bulk Handling Systems designs, manufactures, and installs automated waste processing and material recovery systems for the solid waste, recycling, waste-to-energy, and construction and demolition industries. Its equipment reduces landfilling by identifying and sorting recyclables from curbside, commercial, and industrial waste streams, and the company has completed hundreds of installations over the past ten years on five continents. BHS developed Max-AI, a robotic sorting system that uses artificial intelligence to select and sort identified objects from the waste stream with 95 percent precision, improving material quality and facility safety. The company also operates subsidiaries Nihot (Amsterdam), NRT (Nashville, TN), and Zero Waste Energy (Lafayette, CA) and builds anaerobic digestion facilities that produce biogas from organic waste. BHS plans to use new capital to pursue growth opportunities and expects substantial growth driven by the Max-AI product and demand for zero-waste solutions. Recent financing includes a $20 million junior capital investment led by True West, with Caltius Structured Capital co-investing; Caltius previously financed a 2008 management buyout and is an equity owner.
