Overview
Caelum Biosciences is a clinical‑stage biotechnology company founded by Fortress in January 2017 focused on treatments for rare and life‑threatening diseases. Its lead asset, CAEL‑101, is a first‑in‑class monoclonal antibody designed to bind insoluble light‑chain amyloid fibrils and reduce or eliminate organ amyloid deposits. Phase 1a/1b data in 27 relapsed and refractory AL amyloidosis patients showed improved cardiac and renal function and support the antibody’s potential to promote amyloid resolution. CAEL‑101 has received Orphan Drug Designation from the U.S. FDA (also as a radio‑imaging agent in AL amyloidosis). Under a strategic agreement with Alexion, Caelum will conduct development through the end of Phase 2 and remain responsible for manufacturing while Alexion collaborates on program design. Fortress remains a significant shareholder and retains economic upside tied to a possible Alexion acquisition.
