CanSense develops a blood test to detect early-stage bowel cancer that combines laser spectroscopy with artificial intelligence. The company says the test is faster, less expensive and less invasive than colonoscopy and more acceptable to patients than faecal blood detection kits. CanSense plans to use newly raised funds to further develop the product and carry out clinical trials to meet regulatory requirements and bring the test to market. The company raised £1.5M in funding in a round led by Mercia, the Development Bank of Wales and Nonacus. The technology is based on research at Swansea University by Professors Peter Dunstan and Dean Harris and Dr Cerys Jenkins, part funded by Cancer Research Wales. CanSense was set up in 2019 and is led by CEO Dr Adam Bryant.
