Overview
Carbios is a French industrial biotechnology company focused on PET enzymatic depolymerization, enabling closed-loop recycling of colored bottles, polyester textiles and other synthetic waste streams. Its proprietary enzymes break down plastics and fibers so the monomers can be repolymerized into virgin-grade PET, offering a circular solution for packaging and apparel brands. The firm is advancing commercialization by constructing its first industrial plant in Longlaville, which is designed to process the equivalent of 300 million T-shirts or two billion colored bottles per year. Carbios reports a cash position of €72 million and has begun pre-selling output while continuing to license its process to partners in China, Turkey and the UK. Earlier in 2025 it signed a supply agreement with L'Oréal and L'Occitane en Provence for recycled plastics. The company cites supportive French regulations that grant a €1,000-per-tonne bonus for using bio-recycled plastics as an additional adoption driver. Management states that disciplined spending and recent funding give it confidence to execute its scale-up plans.
