Overview

Caura provides a mobile app that brings driving-related payments and administration into one place, covering vehicle tax, MOT, insurance, tolls and city charges, and planning to add parking. The app is available on iOS and Android and the company intends to extend offerings for both consumers and businesses. Caura plans to develop vehicle maintenance features and UK-wide parking functionality using the new funding. The company also intends to release a suite of products for enterprise and SME customers within the next 12 months. Caura was founded in 2019 and positions itself as a one-stop solution to simplify car ownership for UK drivers. Caura is a vehicle-management platform that lets users manage tolls, congestion charges, road tax, MOT and insurance by linking a vehicle registration to automated payments and reminders. Launched in 2020 and founded in 2019, the app is available on iOS and is used by tens of thousands of UK drivers, carrying a 4.8/5 App Store rating. Caura offers consumer products such as Caura Drive and an FCA-authorised insurance proposition, Caura Protect, which has signed eight insurance partners including Aviva, Ageas, ERS, LV=, Markerstudy, Premier, Southern Rock and Sabre. The company plans native “vehicle companion apps” embedded in infotainment systems, Android and web apps, broader parking and toll integrations, and future support for electric charging. Caura is developing a B2B offering for car manufacturers and aims to expand platform features such as MTAs and claims management for its insurance product. Caura is an iOS app that centralizes vehicle-related administration for drivers in the U.K.; users onboard by entering their vehicle registration to manage parking, tolls, MOT, road tax, insurance and congestion charges. The FCA-approved app integrates with Apple Pay or stores payment details to enable two-click payments and uses in-app notifications to remind users about renewals and charges. It supports multiple registered vehicles, positioning the product for both individual users and potential fleet-manager use, and an Android version is promised by the end of the year. The company was founded by Sai Lakshmi (formerly co-founder of Echo) with co-founders Shaun Foce and Bhavin Kotecha. Caura has raised £1.4 million from various unnamed angel investors. The startup currently does not generate revenue and is passing payments through to final providers while it develops a sustainable business model it plans to share in Q4 2020.
