Cerbomed, founded in 2005 and based in Erlangen, Germany, focuses on neuromodulation using transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation (t-VNS). Its lead product, the NEMOS t-VNS device, received CE clearance for epilepsies and depression in 2010 and for pain in 2012 and is available in Germany and Austria. The company is currently running clinical studies on t-VNS for drug-resistant epilepsy and chronic migraine. Cerbomed's investor base includes lead investor MIG AG, as well as KfW Banking Group and S-Refit AG. The company announced a strategic, minority investment from Cyberonics that will primarily fund its ongoing epilepsy clinical trial in Germany. Cyberonics also holds certain shareholder rights, including advisory-board representation and an exclusive option for worldwide sales and distribution of NEMOS, and may conduct a U.S. trial aimed at FDA approval subject to conditions.
