Changers builds the Changers System, a Social Energy Marketplace that gamifies solar power production and lets users convert measured energy into a currency for sustainable goods and services. Its core product is the Changers Starter Kit — a portable PV solar panel and a portable solar battery that measures how much energy it captures and stores. Users earn rewards and can purchase from commercial partners through the platform, forming a gamified customer loyalty system. Over the past two years Changers sold about 5,000 kits, which together generated over 640 kWh and avoided over 6,000 kg of CO2. The company previously pulled back from insolvency and is led by co-founders Markus Schulz and Daniela Schiffer. With new funding it plans to accelerate product development and expand into solar-rich Middle East markets while leveraging rising consumer interest in energy following Google’s purchase of Nest.
