Overview
Clayful operates an on-demand, chat-based mental-health coaching platform that connects students ages eight to 18 with certified coaches within 60 seconds. Its service is free for students and paid for by school districts, and it supports 133 languages to increase accessibility. The founders, CEO Maria Barrera and Chief Experience Officer Melissa Pelochino, previously worked at Nearpod and co-founded Clayful two years ago; they bring more than 20 years of combined experience in edtech and education. The startup tested pilots in spring 2022 and now works with more than 50 schools, reaching thousands of students nationwide. Clayful reports that students who used its coaching chats had higher attendance rates (95% for students with chats versus 91% for students with zero chats). The company is fully remote with more than 100 staff members and says it will use the new funding to scale its team and reach more schools and students.
