Overview
Clobotics develops computer-vision products including a Smart Wind solution used with autonomous drones to capture high-resolution photos and identify damaged components as small as 1mm by 3mm. Its AI engine parses real-world datasets of full-functional and minutely-damaged turbines and shares telemetry with customers in real time, enabling inspections in minutes rather than days. The company’s Smart Retail platform recognizes product displays and barcodes and can cut inspection time from about 20 minutes to seconds while recommending ways to improve sales. With the new funding, Clobotics plans to expand its business in North America, invest in product development, and build its team with additional computer vision, machine learning, and AI researchers. Clobotics was founded in 2015 by former Microsoft executive George Yan and maintains offices in Seattle and Shanghai. The company has raised a total of $21 million to date. Clobotics is a Shanghai-based computer vision technology startup that builds UAV drone–based inspection systems for wind turbine blades. The company integrates customized UAV hardware with computer vision software to automatically capture images of turbine blade surfaces and inspect them in the cloud. Its system notifies maintenance personnel of damages, deterioration, and other early warning signs, aiming to reduce maintenance costs. Led by founder and CEO George Yan, Clobotics also maintains an R&D center in Seattle. In January 2018 the company raised $5M in a Series A+ financing led by KTB Network with participation from GGV Capital and Capital Development Investment Fund (CDIF). The funds will be used to further advance R&D capabilities and deepen its industry solution stacks.
