Cognitive Geology is an Edinburgh-based provider of petroleum geoscience software, founded in 2014 by geologist Luke Johnson. Its products target onshore and offshore conventional and unconventional oil & gas reservoirs. The company recently launched Hutton, an advanced geological data analysis tool that plugs into major industry platforms including Petrel™ and JewelSuite™ to extract progressive trends from complex datasets. Cognitive Geology raised £2m in funding and intends to use the proceeds to grow the business, roll out its software to oil companies, and further develop its pipeline of advanced third‑generation petroleum geoscience modules.
