Overview

Coiled offers two core products: Coiled Cloud and Coiled Enterprise. Coiled Cloud (running primarily on AWS) lets data scientists build models on a laptop with Python tools and transfer them to any cloud to avoid vendor lock-in, managing containers, networking, GPUs and CPUs. Coiled Enterprise runs in cloud and on-premises, creates portable containers, manages server clusters, provides telemetry and authentication, and includes optimization services and training credits. The company was cofounded in 2020 by Matthew Rocklin, creator of Dask, and positions itself to integrate Python and operations support systems into enterprises. Coiled reports hosting more than 100 million tasks and cites customers such as Capital One, Anthem Health, and Zebra Medical Vision, which used Coiled to cut a pipeline from 66 hours to 15 minutes. Financially, Coiled has raised a total of $26 million to date following its latest $21 million Series A. Coiled provides products that ensure data infrastructure scales at maximum speed and minimum cost using the Python tools data scientists already use. Its offerings make it easy for teams to collaborate, ensure reproducibility with data of any size, and simplify working in the cloud. The team helps scale workloads from workstations and laptops to compute clusters and GPUs using Dask. Coiled’s customers and users include Barclays, Capital One, Harvard Medical School, Los Alamos National Labs, Novartis, USGS, Walmart, and Grubhub. The company’s initial product will allow data scientists to distribute workloads between cloud and on-premise clusters without involving devops, enable teams to better share workflows, and meet enterprise security, monitoring, and authentication needs. Coiled is led by CEO and founder Matthew Rocklin alongside Hugo Bowne-Anderson and Rami Chowdhury and recently raised $5M in seed funding.
