Credit Bank

Mercantile House, Koinange Street, Nairobi, Nairobi Area, 00100, Kenya

Overview

Credit Bank, originally licensed in 1986 as Credit Kenya Limited and converted to a fully-fledged commercial bank in 1995, focuses on offering financial services to small corporates and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises across Kenya. Operating 17 branches nationwide, the bank is currently executing a turnaround strategy centered on digital transformation, regional expansion and deeper penetration of the SME segment. To comply with a new Central Bank of Kenya minimum core capital requirement of Sh3 billion effective January 2026, the bank plans to raise fresh equity and debt capital. Management has lined up a Sh2 billion rights issue backed by existing shareholders Sansora Group of Companies and the Shorecap III fund, each contributing Sh1 billion. Beyond equity, Credit Bank intends to issue a medium-term note on the Nairobi Securities Exchange to diversify its funding sources and offer investors a high-yield bond option. Shareholders have also approved a future share listing on the Unquoted Securities Platform in 2026, signaling longer-term capital-markets ambitions. These initiatives aim to strengthen the bank’s balance sheet while funding ongoing growth initiatives in digital banking and regional footprint.
