CrowdRise is a Los Angeles-based online platform that enables fundraisers to raise money for charitable causes and allows users to share philanthropic stories with their personal networks. Co-founded by Edward Norton, Shauna Robertson, and Jeffrey and Robert Wolfe (CEO), the platform is used by thousands of charitable organizations, events, celebrities, and everyday donors. It provides tools for fundraisers to convert friends into active donors and has launched an expansion enabling people to fundraise for or donate directly to individuals. The company has announced partnerships with the New York City Marathon, the Boston Marathon, the Ironman events, the Red Cross, UNICEF, The Knot, and the Today Show. CrowdRise closed a $23m financing led by Union Square Ventures, with participation from Spark Capital, Index Ventures, RatPac, CAA Ventures, United Talent Agency's venture fund, and Bezos Expeditions. As part of the round, Fred Wilson of Union Square Ventures will join CrowdRise's board of directors.
