CuriosityStream is a Silver Spring, MD-based factual streaming service that offers high-quality documentaries and series across science, nature, history, technology, society and lifestyle. Launched by Discovery Channel founder John Hendricks and led by President and CEO Clint Stinchcomb, the service features over 2,000 documentary features and series, many in Ultra HD 4K, including exclusive originals and programs featuring experts such as Stephen Hawking, David Attenborough and Derek Muller. CuriosityStream is available worldwide across TV, desktop, mobile and tablet platforms and through distribution partners including Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video Channels, YouTube TV, Sling TV, DISH, Comcast Xfinity on Demand and major smart-TV manufacturers. At the end of 2018 the company reported 1 million paying subscribers. In December 2019 the company raised approximately $140 million in private funding to boost spending on factual programming, drive technological advancement in content discovery and expand marketing globally. Backers named in the round include Blum Capital Ventures and TimesSquare Capital Management.
