Overview
Saina Biotech, founded by a team including Peking University academician Xie Xiaoliang, Professor Huang Yanyi and Dr. Chen Zitian, is a high-tech company integrating gene-technology R&D, translation, production and sales. The company holds more than a hundred Chinese and PCT patents, with core patents authorized in the United States, and centers its technology on two proprietary sequencing innovations: Fluorogenic signal generation and error-correcting coding (ECC). It operates complete manufacturing and R&D capabilities including chemical and enzyme raw-material bases, a GMP reagent production workshop, an instrument factory, and optical, fluidics and algorithm teams. Based on this platform Saina launched the S100 sequencing system, a high-throughput, dual-mode, fast and accurate platform designed for flexible deployment and to meet domestic clinical needs for small samples, speed and low cost. In June 2022 the S100 instrument and companion reagent kits received EU CE-IVDR certification, clearing the way for sales in the European market. The company says it will continue next-generation sequencing R&D, accelerate S100 commercialization and build a China-led sequencing ecosystem to support national bioinformation security. SainaBio develops and industrializes high-throughput gene sequencing platforms, proprietary chips, and reagents aimed at clinical disease detection, diagnosis, and screening. Its core sequencing technologies—Fluorogenic emission and error-correcting ECC coding—were developed by teams led by prominent scientists including Prof. Xie Xiaoliang and Prof. Huang Yanyi. The company reports a multidisciplinary team of nearly 100 technical staff, with more than one-third of R&D personnel holding doctoral or master’s degrees and an instrument engineering team drawn from top domestic IVD firms. SainaBio has completed研发 and validation of its core technologies and produced a first-generation prototype that the company says matches or exceeds comparable international machines on cost, accuracy, and speed. The firm received a Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission project approval in September 2017. Proceeds from the recent financing will be used to finalize clinical registration, optimize and industrialize prototypes, scale instrument and chip production, and support product market entry.
