Overview
Day Zero Diagnostics is building a sample-to-answer diagnostic platform that couples proprietary whole genome sequencing with machine-learning analytics to rapidly detect bloodstream infections and predict antibiotic resistance within hours, eliminating the need for traditional cultures. Its technology stack includes Blood2Bac, a sample-preparation method that enriches bacterial DNA from blood, Keynome, an ML algorithm for species identification and resistance profiling, and the MicrohmDB database linking genomic data to susceptibility patterns. The company is now transitioning these technologies into an FDA-cleared and CE-marked in-vitro diagnostic instrument and disposable cartridge system. To date, Day Zero has secured more than $16 million in non-dilutive award funding from CARB-X, including an initial $6.2 million award in 2020 and a new $8.2 million option-stage award. In addition, it closed a $21 million venture equity financing in February. These funds support continued product development and regulatory preparation aimed at curbing the growing threat of antibiotic-resistant infections.
