3-5-10 Taito 303, Taito-ku, Tokyo, 110-0016, Japan
Overview
Dendama builds an IoT-enhanced Kendama by adding sensors to all contact surfaces and accelerometers to detect tricks. The toy connects wirelessly to a smartphone app that helps users train, supports multiplayer play, and scores recognized tricks by difficulty, which inflict “damage” on opponents. The company demonstrated the product at TechCrunch Tokyo, where CEO Yoshihiro Ohtani discussed its features amid growing Kendama popularity and competitions over the past 15 years. Dendama raised around $11,300 on the Japanese crowdfunding site Makuake. The company plans a Kickstarter campaign in March 2017 to raise funds for production and to test international appetite.
